I will be teaching Wednesdays and Fridays this winter in Courtenay at the Sports Centre Aquarium Room and in in Campbell River at the Art Gallery, respectively. See the details below: At the SPORTS CENTRE Aquarium Room 3001 Vanier Drive, Courtenay Come As You Art Join this enthusiastic and maybe a little bit crazy class where everyone gets to make up their own curriculum. Whatever your whim: bring your naked canvases, your half-painted portraits, your mis-matched landscapes or your dead drawings. Bring your vague ideas or just bring yourself and a few art supplies. After the initial chaos dies down, you can work at your own speed on your own projects with individual one-on-one help as needed. You will also benefit from the experience of the group where we learn and are inspired to more and greater works by a common energy. Please take the time to contact me via e-mail or call me at home at (250) 337-5487 for more information. Wednesdays: 9:30 am - 12:00 noon SESSION I: January 18 - February 15 (5 classes) Cost is $100* SESSION II: February 29 - March 28 (5 classes) Cost is $100* * When registering, students have the option of paying in advance for the entire ten classes and receiving one free class ($180), or registering and paying for each session separately at full price ($100 and $100 respectively). |
| An Introduction to Acrylics Acrylics have become one of the most versatile and forgiving mediums in the history of art. First cousins to the oil paints, acrylics lack the messy clean-up and aromas of oils, but have all the potentials of brilliant and rich colour as well as an uncanny ability to emulate other water and oil-based mediums. Of course, as with everything, there is a learning curve with inherant tricky bits, but this class is designed to get you up-to-speed on the basics so that you can spend your springtime honing your skills. Click here for a supply list. Please feel free to call (250) 337-5487 or e-mail me to discuss any questions you might have. Wednesdays: 1:00 - 3:30 pm January 18 - March 7 (7 classes; no class February 22) Cost is $140 |
| Strictly Watercolours Watercolour is so popular these days, I thought it would be almost a public service to provide a good foundation in a sometimes difficult but very rewarding medium. This will be an exploration into the basics of watercolours with some fun diversions into interesting tricks and effects. I hope to keep the class small enough to accommodate a couple of more experienced students who are just looking for review and skill improvement. Please feel free to call (250) 337-5487 or e-mail me to discuss any questions you might have. Wednesdays: 1:00 - 3:30 pm March 14 - April 25 (7 classes) Cost is $140 |
| Drawing & Painting the Human Figure This short session of four classes will focus on the core elements of rendering the human figure: simple anatomy, gestural proportions, body language, centre of gravity, facial structure, skin tones and ambient light. Although this will only touch on a subject that can take years of study, students will come away with a solid foundation for application in life-drawing practice and also be better able to incorporate figures in landscapes. Please feel free to call (250) 337-5487 or e-mail me to discuss any questions you might have. Wednesdays: 9:30 am - 12:00 noon April 4 - 25 (4 classes) Cost is $85 |
